Highlights allow you to visually mark aging thresholds on the chart. They appear as colored background zones behind each workflow column and help you quickly identify items that are within the normal range, approaching risk, or exceeding expected aging limits.

These zones compare the age of current WIP items with the historical aging distribution of completed issues.

By default, the chart includes three highlight zones:

- **<85%** – items aging within the typical historical range
- **85–95%** – items approaching the upper boundary of normal aging
- **>95%** – items exceeding the typical completion time

In the **Highlights** menu, you can modify these zones or add new ones to reflect your workflow expectations.

### Historical dataset

The **Percentiles based on completed issues from** setting in the Highlights menu defines the historical dataset used for percentile calculations.

This dataset is used for all percentile-based comparisons in the chart, including:

- highlight zones
- [Total historical WIP age (%)](https://brokenbuild.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WIP/pages/4808769554) health metric
- [85% zone breaching items](https://brokenbuild.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WIP/pages/4809359365) health metric

### Configuring highlights

You can configure multiple highlight zones to define aging thresholds.

For each highlight, you can specify:

- **Visibility** – enable or disable the highlight
- **Name** – label displayed in the chart legend
- **Statuses** – apply the highlight to specific statuses or all statuses
- **Measurement type **- percentiles or time units (hours, days, weeks, etc.), depending on the selected [Unit](https://brokenbuild.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WIP/pages/4526931975)
- **Range** – define the aging range using numeric values or percentiles
- **Color** – choose the background color displayed on the chart
